3SDM | Cast & Forged Alloy Wheel Brand bmw_6_series-3 BMW 6 Series Blog Post

It came the time to shoot Simon’s 6 series, so we made the trip up to Derby Nottingham to catch up with Simon and take a closer look. When it comes to a 6 Series you think long distance comfortable cruiser, in my opinion I’ve never been a big fan as I prefer something a bit more on the smaller scale, however, don’t be fooled this 6 series has had a fare bit of work done to it making it unique too all the others out there.

I first saw Simon’s car in person at Players Classic earlier in the year just about tucking itself underneath one of the paddock bays inside the circuit. After a quick glance around I made a note to get this car featured. We met up at his house and made a short trip to a location he had in mind, it wasn’t easy to get to and required a short off-road drive down a walking path in the local park. After casually passing afternoon walkers and cyclists, much to there shock, we made it to a wide open underpass near to the railway and started setting up.

Simon purchased and imported the car from Ireland back in February 2015. He waisted no time in starting with the modifications. The car has had an extensive amount of work done starting with a 6K full engine rebuild replacing all moving parts, seals and uprating various components. Dinan high flow throttle body, stainless straight through quad exhaust system, K&N air filter and remap putting it at 440BHP. To accommodate to the added power he upgraded to a drilled and grooved break set up as well.

With it’s exterior and interior he spared no expense. Kicking things off with air ride by D2 then going in with a full respray in status grey metallic with the new Prior designs front and rear bumper with gloss black side skirts and matching front grill. Then to tie it all up he went with full carbon bonnet, ducktail boot lid and wing mirrors, and finally upgrading to white angel eye headlights.

Interior wise Simon re-trimmed the flat bottomed steering wheel with red/black carbon fibre and alcantara detailing in addition dash trim, hand break and gear gator. Then finally added in the Recaro CS seats with custom made runners, only 6 series to have done this.

We finished up at the first location and headed over to Derby arena to finalise on last shots and aimed to capture closing rolling shots for the feature film. Unfortunately, the 3 axis gimbal decided it didn’t want to play ball anymore by not powering on which was a real shame as I was hoping to capture it on the move and the raw sound of that burbling V8. Just goes to show you can always rely on technology, but hey these things happen.

Down to the wheels. Simon had been through roughly seven different sets of wheels before he went for our cast 0.04’s in 20 x 9.5 upfront and 10.5 on the rear. The staggered set up accommodate those big arches well along with the directional design and concave on the rear. Fully aired out this car sits perfectly with a 225/35/20 upfront and 255/35/20 on the rear perfectly tucking underneath. It wasn’t a simple pop them on situation some arch work had to be done for this fitment to be achieved. After a few attempts he achieved what he was after and we feel they suit the car very well.

This isn’t the end of the line for Simon. Straight after this feature the car underwent a full strip ready for next years show season. He has plans to go fully deathed out with a black respray and will hopefully be moving over to our forged wheels series for next year along with some interior reworks and additions. We will defiantly be seeing more of this car coming in to 2018.
